v 4.1 08/29/92
+ Added new features, thus, the .cfg file changed again :-( EXISTING
verifix users must run the enclosed file CVT4-401 to convert .cfg
file from version 4.0 to 4.01...
+ Added 3 new fields (options) in vconfig.
1. Specify the sysops name, so postmaster can send a message to that
name instead of hard coded "SYSOP" name.
2. Relation call back. This is a Yes or No toggle. If you select
no, verifix works just like before. BUT if you select yes, verifix
will call back the user at a number that has already been called.
Makes it easier to verify a son, wife, etc...
3. You can upgrade a long distance user without calling them back!
This is a neat feature :-). If you specify long distance as a N or
you are calling long distance, but only certain times of the week,
selecting a Yes in this field will upgrade the user and send them
a message without the call back. Saves you a long distance call, AND
you don't have to manually upgrade the user. BTW there is another
display screen because of this feature, it is called AUTOUP.BBS
+ Added non standard com port addressing and custom IRQs for the
download protocol DSZ. Before verifix would only shell out and call
DSZ with standard parameters.
+ The log files have changed format. This is to make it easier to
follow, and to accommodate the new log trimming utility trimvfx.exe
+ New utility has been added! TRIMVFX.EXE trims the log files verifix
creates. It trims VALIDYES.xxx, VALIDNO.xxx, and LONGDIST.LOG.
Helps keep your log files down to a minimum size. Run it as an
event.
+ Verifix is now more multi-node capable. Added new environment
variables to make it easier for each node of wildcat to run
independent of the other nodes.
! Fixed a NASTY bug! If VERIFIED.NBS was not found, verifix would not
go through its algorithms to find out if the user was calling long
distance or not. Thus, it would put a 1-area code onto a number,
even if it was your neighbor calling from across the street. Also
because of this, the CALLBACK.BBS screen was never being displayed.
Fixed.
! If you did not create the custom MESS.USR file, when verifix sent the
default message to the user, it would not change back to the verifix
subdirectory, thus not displaying any color screens. Fixed.
! The area code was not being added to certain long distance numbers.
This would happen if you lived in one area code and you had other
area codes local to you. Fixed.
v 4.0 07/10/92
+ Verifix uses the @ color codes just like Wildcat. There is only one
display screen for both mono and color with a .BBS extension.
+ All screens have been redrawn.
+ Verifix has @variables@ of its own. This makes displaying certain
information to the user much easier.
+ Verifix now creates a bulletin or hello screen to show log of
activity.
+ You can now have your allfiles file listing downloaded by verified
users.
+ Vconfig has been completely rewritten to reflect all the new features.
Pressing the F1 key at each field throughout the forms will pop up
context-sensitive help for that field.
+ Long distance calling is much more efficient. You can specify what
numbers to call, either long distance area codes, or prefixes, and the
times they are to be called.
+ You can now selectively call long distance. In the xxx.nbs file place
a ! in front of the area code. Example: !717-749 means that verifix
will call long distance ONLY into area code 717 and prefix 749. If
you wish to call EVERY prefix in the 717 area code, then say:
!717-ALL. Notice the ALL key word. This means every prefix. To use
this feature, go into vconfig and tell it Long Distance "Y", but long
distance area codes AND long distance prefixes a "N".
+ Now has up to 10 upgrade levels. You can even have a level
re-verified.
+ VERIFIX now plays ansi music!!! When in vconfig go to the misc2 form,
type in a few codes then press F2 to hear the music! If you leave
this field blank no music SHOULD be played in verifix.
+ You can now tell verifix to write a message to the user AND/OR to the
sysop. This is accomplished by the program POSTMASTER.
+ If you want to send the user a custom message, then create the text in
a file called MESS.USR. When the user is verified, postmstr will
insert your mess.usr file into the wildcat database. If you don't
feel like screwing with making a custom message, then don't create
one, verifix will make a default message and stuff it into the wc
message database.
+ Verifix now takes the phone off the hook right before callback, while
the user is waiting to be called back. After the 7 seconds expires,
verifix puts the phone back on hook, then dials out the user. This is
a MUCH better way, because you can't detect an incoming carrier
collision within 7 seconds especially with a V.32bis modem...
+ Created a program called MK-CODES.EXE which reads a text file called
ACODES.NBS and converts the areacodes-prefix ranges to expanded
numbers in your 215.nbs file. Instead of writing this code into
verifix, and having verifix become more slow or more huge, I created
this external stand alone program you run once. You specify the
ranges by adding the ~ symbol, like this: 215-960~980 this means call
all the prefixes in the 215 area code and all the prefixes in that
area code from 960 up to 980.
+ All known bugs in previous versions have been squashed. The beta
testing for version 4.0 has been both long and intense! Verifix has
shown to be very stable on all the systems it has been tested on.
v 3.1 01/19/92 + Finished the documentation to reflect the new features
+ Included a new file called BLDNBS.EXE. This file will search your
ALLUSERS.DAT file and create a VERIFIED.NBS or all security levels
except the one you specify. Refer to docs or type BLDNBS from command
line for help. Must be run from VERIFIX subdirectory and VERIFIX.CFG
must exist and be correct.
v 3.1 BETA 1/11/92
+ Ability to read the environment variable SET WCMDM and read your
specific .mdm file that controls the modem.
+ Now supports NON standard com ports. VERIFIX reads the wildcat
environment variables SET WCBASEID= and SET WCIRQID=.
+ Verifix can run at baud rate speeds of up to 115200
! Reports that verifix was locking up some computers. Hopefully fixed
that bug.
! Was not detecting DESQview properly. Thought DESQview was running
and it wasn't. Fixed.
! Re-coded idle timeslices to DESQview routines.
+ There is now incoming call collision protection. Verifix will send
out a friendly message to the incoming user to tell him that someone
else is currently being verified.
+ You can create an ansi & mono file called USER#.BBS and USER#.SCR.
This is a nice message displayed only once welcoming the new user to
your system. Verifix copies these files to the respective user number
into your display directory.
+ You can now log into your bbs locally and test verifix. It will do
everything as on line except dial the phone to call out. Very handy
for testing screens and to see the operation.
+ A printed bound user manual is now available! Refer to order.frm for
more information.
v 3.0 12/15/91 Added many new features!
+ Documentation has been completely rewritten using Microsoft Word for
Windows 2.0.
+ If you live in an area where you have more than one local area code,
verifix can handle that. Up to 3 local areacodes.
+ Added a time range when verifix will NOT call back users. New display
screen is also added.
+ Supports up to 3 access levels to upgrade from/to
+ Changed the editor VCONFIG to create the new config file.
+ TRUE multinode. Verifix will read environment variables to override
the default configuration.
+ You can now specify how long you want verifix to timeout when calling
back a user.
+ You can now specify how many minutes you want to give the "upgraded"
user for that session.
+ You can now specify which drive and directory the log files are
written to.
+ Added a "local" mode so registered users can see their custom screens.
Just type VERIFIX LOCAL
+ Verifix now writes to a file called VERIFIED.NBS instead of PHONE.NBS.
+ LOCAL.NBS file has now been changed to YOUR AREA CODE#.NBS. See docs
for explanation.
+ VALIDUSR.NO has been changed to VALIDNO.xxx where xxx is the node
number.
+ VALIDUSR.YES has been changed to VALIDYES.xxx where xxx is the node
number.
+ Using a newer version of the comm i/o library. This should fix the
problem with HST dual standards not picking up the phone to dial out
properly.
+ VERIFIX wasn't writing to the activity.xxx log correctly, fixed.
v 2.0 08/29/91 Verifix is now Wildcat 3.0 compatible.
+ Changed the "demo key" concept a bit. Now verifix is distributed with
a demo key good for 90 days, depending when you downloaded it from a
bbs.
+ Has a choice on whether or not you want to hang up on a user after
he/she has been verified.
+ Verifix now internally upgrades the user automatically. No need for
external upgrade programs.
+ New registration address. Sophisticated Software BBS in Pennsylvania
(215) 968-4998 is the direct support bbs.
v 1.6 06/12/91
+ If a user changed his phone number from the callinfo.bbs number,
VERIFIX would write garbage in the activity.log and validusr.yes file
- FIXED
+ If you added a pre-dial prefix longer than 9,, VERIFIX would not call
out properly - FIXED
+ If the sysop happened to use his calling card code in the pre-dial
prefix, that code would be displayed to the caller, dumb mistake! :-)
- FIXED
+ Added the ability for the SysOp to abort callback by hitting the
ESCape key.
+ The local keyboard is now "live" while VERIFIX is active.
+ The UPGRADE.EXE program that is packaged with VERIFIX has been fixed
(Thanks Dave Cody!). You can now upgrade people with 3 names, i.e.
David Lee Roth. Also, there is more error checking.
**************** N O T E ******************
This is the LAST version of VERIFIX until Wildcat 3.0 is released. We
are currently re-writing VERIFIX to run under Wildcat 3.0
v 1.5 05/10/91
Added Support for COM3 and COM4 (ANSI standard ONLY)
Further Code Optimization for SPEED of execution, and less program
memory SIZE.
Additional information written to the ACTIVITY.LOG file.
LOCAL.NBS file (created by sysop) added so SysOps can enter only the
local exchanges so long distance exchanges in the same area code will
NOT be called.
Caller must strike a key to continue after EVERY screen. This way the
screens won't 'fly by'.
Timeout functions added to ensure user doesn't hold your BBS on-line too
long during the call back sequence.
Phone number entry screen changed. Asks the user if he wishes to be
called back with the phone number residing in the callinfo.bbs file
first.
Added VCONFIG editor for creating the VERIFIX.CFG file.
Senses DESQview or Windows 3.0, VERIFIX will give up timeslices to the
multitasker while waiting for a remote keypress.
You can append up to 25 numbers to the phone number being dialed. This
is useful in a office environment, add 9, to get an outside line.
Graphical upgrades and changes, minor spelling errors and corrections.
v 1.4 xx/xx/xx Alpha test. Version not released to public.
v 1.3 02/25/91
Minor upgrade. Added support for backspace in the phone number entry
and in the password entry.
More optimizations of code.
Added an option to have a message written to every newuser. A sample
file is included in this .zip file. USER#.SCR and USER#.BBS. This file
will write to its corresponding user. Refer to README.NOW for examples.
When Verifix hangs up on the user, it will take the phone off the hook
instantly. This leaves no time for the phone to be onhook, to confuse
incoming callers.
Verifix now has FILE AUTHENTICITY VERIFICATION! If you don't see UBU867
when you unzip this file you have a HACKED copy!
v 1.2 01/22/91
Corrected some typo's in the program and in the documentation.
Added a feature regarding logoff. Verifix now writes Signed Off
Normally to the activity.log if the user gets validated, or writes
Dropped Carrier if the user is not validated.
Optimized code a bit.
Added an external program to be run called UPGRADE.EXE Special thanks to
Dave Cody of The Boardwalk! BBS.
v 1.1 01/06/90
Verifix now writes a file called PHONE.NBS. This is a file with all the
phone numbers verifix has called. Users won't be able to use verifix
twice.
Writes to the activity.log, VALIDUSR.NO and VALIDUSR.YES files.
Fixed the null pointer error message when program exits.
Verifix does not hang up on a caller if their security level is too
high.
Sysop can create a new display file called BENCALED.SCR or BENCALED.BBS.
This file is displayed to a user that has been verified, BUT not been
upgraded yet.
v 1.0 12/21/90
Initial release of verifix call back verifier for WILDCAT!
